Dirt and scale, as pipeline debris, is a leading cause of damage and failure to other valves and equipment. Highly engineered Strainers are an economical way to effectively filter out these elements. The basket type in particular can filter and strain a wide variety of liquids and retain solids of practically any size.

STRAINER TYPES

Y-TYPE VALVE STRAINERS

Y-type valve strainers are used to mechanically remove unwanted large particles and solids from liquid or gas flow. They do so through a perforated or wire mesh straining element.

They are commonly used in applications with pipelines to protect:

  • Pumps
  • Meters
  • Control valves
  • Steam traps
  • Regulators
  • Other process equipment

BASKET TYPE STRAINERS

A basket-type strainer is a device used in horizontal pipelines to filter out unwanted particles using a mesh screen. It can filter and strain a wide variety of liquids and retain solids of practically any size.

Strainers are used to prevent particles from making their way into downstream equipment like pumps, valves, and traps. Basket-type strainers are commonly used for liquid service applications.

FAQs

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A FILTER AND A STRAINER?Arrow

The main difference between filters and strainers is the size of particles they remove and strain.

  • Strainers remove larger particles visible in liquid or gas
  • Filters remove smaller particles that might not be visible
WHERE SHOULD THE Y-STRAINER BE POSITIONED?Arrow

The y-strainer should be positioned where the blow-off or drain plug can be removed and at the lowest point - allowing for easier maintenance and access.

If the strainer is installed vertically, the Y side must be pointing downwards to work.
